2024 PPW IMAGE COMPETITION RULES

PHOTOGRAPHIC OPEN DIVISION

  1. All entries must be registered at www.printcompetition.com.
  2. Entrants may submit only digital files for judging.
  3. No changes to your entry are permitted once the entry deadline has passed. 
  4. Entrants do not need to be PPW members to compete in the Photographic Open Competition. Only PPW members can earn merits and trophies.
  5. No refunds will be issued after the entry fee is paid.

Eligibility

  1. Entrant must have captured and created the original exposure or exposures.
  2. All processing, manipulation and rendering, were done by the entrant or under their direct supervision.
  3. The entrant's name shall not appear anywhere in or on the face of the entry.
  4. A maximum of four (4) entries may be submitted per entrant. 
  5. No entry will be eligible if it has been made under the supervision of an instructor or as a class assignment. All images submitted must be self-directed.
  6. Entries of the same subject in multiple images will be allowed, as long as the images are entirely different concepts. 
  7. Once an image has been awarded an exhibition merit (PPW score of 76 or higher) it may not be entered again in any other category or PPW competition, at any time, by any entrant, including any image from a merited album.  Any image that has been entered in a PPA Image Competition is allowed to be entered in the PPW Image Competition.
  8. Any entry that has been created from an existing photograph, portrait, graphic or any other artwork produced by another person is a violation of the competition rules and will not be judged, accepted or displayed. If an entry, in the good-faith opinion of PPW, violates copyright, trademark or any other applicable law, that entry shall be disqualified.
  9. The entrant has obtained and has access to all necessary releases (model or property) and agrees to hold PPW harmless against all claims and liabilities arising out of PPW's display, publication and promotion or other use of each image submitted to PPW.

Photographic Open Competition Categories

You must designate one of the below categories for each entry:

  • Portrait: Consists of Animal, Child (age up to 16), Group (2 or more people), Woman, High School Senior, Man  and Creative.
  • Wedding: Consists of Bride, Groom, Group( 2 or more people) Candid and Creative.
  • Illustrative: Consists of Architectural, Landscapes, Photojournalism, Commercial/Illustrative, Still Life, Wildlife  and Creative. Note: Portraits and weddings portraits are not appropriate for this category.

Submission 

  • Files must be sized so the longest dimension is 4000 pixels. Each file must contain an embedded color profile of either sRGB or Adobe RGB1998 and be saved at a JPEG quality setting of 10. In most cases, total file size should not exceed 3.5 MB. Larger files will be accepted when necessary so long as they are JPEG/10.
  • Files are to be named, Image Name.jpg with no underscores or special characters.
  • The base membership at www.printcompetition.com is all that is needed for entry to PPW competitions.

NOTE: Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification of the entry. The decision of the PPW Photographic Competition Committee is final.

ARTIST DIVISION

  4. Entrants do not need to be PPW members to compete and can enter the Artist Competition. Only PPW members can earn merits and trophies. 
  5. No refunds will be issued after the entry fee is paid. 

Eligibility 

  1. Entries may be reproduced from existing photographs, portraits, graphics or any other artwork so long as the entrant is prepared to provide appropriate written documentation indicating permission for usage. This documentation may be requested by PPW before, during or after the competition. If an entry, in the good-faith opinion of the PPW Photographic Competition Committee, violates copyright, trademark or any other applicable law and cannot be proven otherwise, that entry shall be disqualified, and merits revoked, if issued. 
  2. All processing, manipulation, artwork or rendering must be done by the entrant.

  8. Guide images must be included on the face of the entry.

Artist Competition Categories 

You must designate one of the below categories for each entry: 

  • Portrait: Consists of subjects of any gender, age and grouping including animals and wedding portraits. 
  • Illustrative: Consists of commercial, fine art, abstract, conceptual and non photographic elements.
  • Restoration: Consists of any subject matter that requires repair and restoration due to surface print damage, color fade, color correction, focus, grain, the extension of an image, missing parts, stains, water damage, etc.

Submission

Deadlines and Fees

  • $90 Entry Fee (1 to 4 entries) registered between January 1, 2024 at 12:00am PST through February 24, 2024 by 11:59pm PST.
  • $149 Entry Fee (1 to 4 entries) registered between February 25, 2024 at 12:00am PST through March 4. 2024 by 11:59pm PST.
  • $40 (4 entries) or $12/Critique. Critiques will be sent to the submitted email address within four weeks of completion of the competition.
  • Entries and Critique requests will not be accepted after March 4, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.
  • $12.00 for base membership to www.printcompetition.com.
