Education is the key to PPW!  

We have several events yearly that offer incredible speakers on various topics to help the professional photographer.


The Spring Educational Conference is around April and provides the association's members an event to come together to enjoy old and new friends. The day before this event our Annual Image Competition takes place. Hired judges are brought in to judge and critique our images with the 12 Elements of Merited Print as a guide. 


We hold a Fall Event around October to give a stimulating break from the photographer's busy season of High School seniors and families, for example. 


During the year, each PPW District holds meetings four times a year in the their area. To learn about these events besides here on our website, The Washington Photographer Journal comes out four times a year. Within the pages of the journal, you will also learn about the workings of PPW and informational articles about our industry.

    You create a great image for your clients - but is that where the process ends? One of the NW areas premier framers will walk you through how enhance value to your customers improve your sales by providing framing on Monday, May 10th 7pm – 8:30pm


    Heidi Butz has been a professional picture framer for over 30 years, starting her own business, Heidi's Place Custom Framing, in 1993. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a background in art, drafting, and even a little photography in high school and college. Her goal in framing a picture is to preserve the quality of the image through acid free and protective coverings and enhance it through the beauty of mats and a frame that accent the image. 




    Heidi believes that the art or photography is the showpiece, and the framing is there to enhance the image. Her picture framing studio is located in Bothell where she and her husband live. Heidi is very involved in her local community. She is Vice President of the Mill Creek Chamber of Commerce and also works putting on events in the Mill Creek Town Center and volunteering in her community.

    We are happy to introduce the PPW Speaker’s Circle. 

    Join us as we introduce PPW’s newest member benefit – created to help our members step into the realm of Public Speaking.     Come and photograph the Palouse at Steptoe Butte on May 14th 6:30pm. Get your Discovery Pass, plan to car pool and join PPW for a great photo opportunity and get to experience the beauty of the Palouse at sunset transitioning into evening.

    If you have never made the trip, here is your chance to join a group all while practicing social distancing. Dress in layers it is often windy on the butte, as the sun sets it gets cooler. Pack some food or coffee, hot coco, something caffeinated for yourself as you need to be alert while driving back home after 10:30pm. Bring a flash light with a red gel over the lens to be respectful to others who may still be photographing and protect everyone's night vision.

    Do not forget your tripod.

    The Theory and Fundamentals of Posing Groups with Michele Celentano, Cr.Photog., CPP

    Group portraits are necessary in just about every type of portraiture. Whether you photograph weddings, families, sports, school or corporate events - You need to pose groups of people.

    Join Michele Celentano and she walks you through the concepts and theories of posing groups of people together. Learning to identify body types, shapes and sizes in order to pose people so everyone in a group portrait looks their best is critical to mastering group posing. 

    From body analysis, to puzzle pieces and creating shapes - Michele will walk you through all the steps she uses in posing groups of people from 2-100. 

    Set yourself apart from the competition by learning to master posing groups of people in a way that ensures everyone looks their best.

      About Michele:

      After nearly 30 years of experience, her passion for transforming photographs into treasured memories for families only continues to grow.  

      Michele Celentano is the author of “Photographing Families - Tips for Capturing Timeless Images”.  She has appeared on CreativeLive.com for a three day workshop about photographing families that was viewed globally by more than 30,000 photographers. Most recently Michele released on online course dedicated to family portraits.  She has served as a judge and chairman for WPPI international print competition. 

      Michele is one of an elite group of photographers to be sought out by Canon USA to represent their company as an Explorer of Light.  Only 50 photographers nationwide hold this honor.  Michele and her images have been featured in numerous advertisements for Canon and their professional line of cameras.  She is a regular and popular presenter for Canon at trade shows through the county. 

      Michele was awarded her Craftsmen Degree from the Professional Photographers of America and the Accolade of Photographic Mastery from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.  Her artwork has been published in literary works such as Rangefinder, American Photographer, Shutterbug, Studio Photography as well as numerous books on the art of photography.

      In addition to running her portrait business, Michele continues to travel internationally to teach and lecture on the subject of portrait photography.

      Here in the Southwest District, we believe it is our mission to become better creatives. Join us for a monthly SW PPW (virtual) gathering, ‘Coffee, Cameras and Conversation’ where we can connect and get to know our other PPW members and share on the journey to better. We meet every fourth Tuesday morning at 9am.

    PPW Annual Educational Conference

    Every year PPW hosts an Annual Educational Conference and Image Competition.  In addition to learning from the masters, we provide fun and fellowship with our Fun Party Auction which raises money to allow PPW to give out scholarships every year. To honor those who earned enough merits, we present them with Membership Medallions at our President's Banquet. At this event we also reveal who won trophies from the Image Competition. Good times and definitely something to not miss! Keep checking back to learn about our upcoming Spring Conference.

    Entering your state competition is one of the best ways to push yourself to be more. You'll learn where you stand—how your photography matches up with your peers. You'll learn about the 12 Elements of a Merit Image, and start incorporating them into your daily photography.
