Commercial Lighting - Fun & Fearless Tabletop Product Photography

Instructor: Lara Grauer, CPP

Product photography is very challenging and varied -it's at leastas challenging as portrait photography, and in some ways maybe more. Lighting is an essential skill when working with objects, since pose and expression are not a factor. How can you harness the technical details and still be creative when working with inanimate objects? In this session, you’ll follow along with Lara Grauer on her recent commercial project, where she photographed a collection of over 200 pottery pieces for an upcoming book.

Walk away knowing:

What types of products you’re prepared to photograph

How to create light that takes a back seat and emphasizes the object itself

How to style objects with food

When and how to get creative shots that combine lighting with other techniques

Studio Lighting - Learning How to See and Create Light Within a Studio Space

Instructor:Matthew Weston, M.Photog.Cr, CPP, FP

We will examine how to use the equipment you already own to create images within a studio

space. Emphasis will be on the smaller studio space, but lessons learned can be applied to your outdoor and large studio spaces as well. Starting with a single light source we will learn to see how light can be controlled and shaped to create the look we desire. Then we will see how adding different lights in different ways can add the spice we desire to take our images to the next level. Matthew will share how he created portraits and commercial photographs for 30 years in a 12’ x 25’ space with only 8 foot ceilings. (yes...a converted carport/family room in a splitlevel house). Bring your questions and frustrations with your current studio lighting, and let's work on them together!

Off -Camera Flash - Sexy Location Lighting with Portable Strobes

Instructor: Chris Wooley, M. Photog., Cr., CPP, FP

Get that flash off your camera to add some depth to your location portraits. Instructor Chris Wooley will guide you through the fundamentals of off-camera flash -from “Getting Started” to “OCF Secrets”, you’ll walk away knowing not just how to use OCF, but how to make the most of it. We’ll dive into how Off-Camera flash works (and what gear is needed), go over the advantages and limitations of portable lighting, explore how High-Speed Sync (HSS) works, and actually learn to use location lighting. This course also includes gear and modifier recommendations and tricks for making the most of your location lighting kit.
