Meet under the big tree on the east lawn of the house. We'll go until
after sunset which is at 7:14pm.
Shoot the Shooter is an evening to explore mixed lighting, particularly
using small “on camera” flash units and light modifiers to
create dramatic portraits with
minimal equipment. We’ll pair up and photograph each other,
sharing ideas and
techniques. Bring your toolkit, including tripod, light stands, lights, and
modifiers.
Some lighting ideas to try:
• Overpower the sun to isolate the subject against a darker background
• One-light portrait
• Off-camera key and on-axis fill
• Creative color gels to change or enhance the background.
For more ideas, see the Strobist website: http://strobist.blogspot.com/
At the end of the evening we should each have explored some lighting
ideas we haven’t
tried before, in an environment where it’s OK to experiment.
Since we’re photographing each other, it’s encouraged that you
share the portraits you
make of your fellow PPW photographer with him or her to use in their
promotional
materials (with credit to you). We all probably need to update our
portraits and this is an
opportunity to get something fresh and new.
After we’re done shooting, we’ll adjourn to dinner and drinks
in Ferndale at Chihuahua
Family Mexican Restaurant, 5694 3rd Avenue.
Please RSVP by
Friday, September 17 so
we know who’s coming and who’s going to dinner.
